Setup
From download to first chart
Installing a NinjaScript add-on in NinjaTrader 8 takes about five minutes, and the steps below are the standard NinjaTrader import flow — nothing unusual, and nothing specific to us beyond the name you look for in the indicator list.
- Platform
- NinjaTrader 8
- Tested on
- NinjaTrader 8.1.8.2
- Data feed
- Any NinjaTrader 8 feed with real-time data
- Licence
- Issued to one customer, for their own trading. Perpetual. Activation details are provided at purchase.
Do not have the platform yet?
Free to download, and free to keep using for charting and simulation — which is everything the steps below need. What the free download includes, and where the market data comes from, is set out on the platform page.
The tool is delivered as a direct download. After your purchase you receive an email with a personal download link: the file itself is never sent as an attachment, so the link can be counted and re-issued if something goes wrong.
The link stays valid for 30 days, so reinstalling on a new machine or after a disk change does not mean asking us for a new copy. If you need the file after that, email support@makedgelab.com and we will re-issue it.
Installing
-
01
Get the file
The download link arrives by email after your purchase — it is not on this page.
What you get is a single .zip archive: a NinjaTrader add-on package with the indicator already compiled, so there is nothing to build and nothing to configure before importing. Do not unzip it — NinjaTrader imports the archive as it is.
-
02
Close all charts
In NinjaTrader, close any open chart windows before importing. An add-on that loads while a chart is running can end up half-initialised.
-
03
Import the add-on
From the NinjaTrader Control Center, go to Tools → Import → NinjaScript Add-On…, then select the .zip file.
NinjaTrader compiles it on import. If a dialog reports that files will be overwritten, that is expected when you are updating an existing version.
-
04
Restart NinjaTrader
Close the platform completely and reopen it. This is not optional — NinjaTrader only picks up newly compiled assemblies on a fresh start.
-
05
Add it to a chart
Open a chart, right-click it and choose Indicators…. Find the tool in the list, add it, and apply. Each tool’s page states the exact name NinjaTrader shows for it.
If something does not work
The tool does not appear in the indicator list
Almost always a missed restart. Close NinjaTrader completely — not just the chart — and reopen it. If it still does not appear, the import may have failed silently: check Control Center → New → NinjaScript Editor for compile errors.
The import reported a compile error
A compile error usually means another add-on on the same platform declares something with the same name, or an older version of ours is still installed. Remove the previous version first, then import again.
It loads but the chart looks empty
Usually it is not empty — it is partial, and what is missing is the long-horizon references. The rule behind that: a reference that describes a period can only be drawn if that period was observed from its start. A tool will not infer a period it only partly saw, so a period already in progress when your loaded history begins is left out rather than guessed at.
The fix is almost always to load more history, not less: right-click the chart → Data Series → Days to load. How much each tool needs is stated on its own page, because it depends on the longest period that tool keeps.
If you have already raised it and a reference is still missing, email support@makedgelab.com with the instrument and the chart interval you are on.
Something else
Email support@makedgelab.com with your NinjaTrader version and what you were doing when it happened. That is usually enough to reproduce it.
Installed and running?
Setup gets the tool on the chart. Reading what it shows is a separate matter — the documentation covers what each reference is and why it is computed the way it is.
